Senior Backend API Engineer

<li>
<p><strong>Backend Development:</strong> Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs, from technical design to production.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>Architecture & Scale:</strong> Own complex features and sub-systems spanning multiple services, designed for large data volumes, multi-tenancy, performance, and cost in the cloud.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>Production Ownership:</strong> Investigate issues across systems, profile and optimize production code, and spot risks before they reach customers.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>AI-Augmented Engineering:</strong> Use AI tooling in your daily work, with the judgment to steer, review, and challenge what it produces.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>Technical Leadership:</strong> Raise the team's practices and code health through design proposals, code reviews, and mentoring.</p>
</li>
</div><br><strong>Required qualifications</strong><br><div>
<li>Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant field.</li>
<li>
<p>7+ years of hands-on backend development, with a track record of owning significant features from design through delivery.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Deep expertise in <strong>at least one backend language</strong> among Node.js/TypeScript, PHP, Go, or Python; production experience with <strong>two or more</strong> is a strong plus.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Proven ability to get up to speed quickly on complex systems and take ownership of key parts of them, whether building from scratch or evolving what exists.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Strong fundamentals in software design and distributed systems: event-driven architectures, queues, database performance, testing.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Experience with AWS (serverless, containers, IaC) and observability tooling. Salesforce experience is a plus.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Equivalent engineering school degree or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Fluent in English and French, with clear communication, ownership mindset, and strong collaborative skills.</p>
